PAKENHAM- Alfred John Pakenham, formerly of New Paltz NY and most recently of Danbury CT, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. He was 55 years old.
Alfred John Pakenham was born in Jersey City, NJ on July 16, 1952 to Thomas Pakenham and Caroline (nee Nelson) Pakenham. He graduated from Warwick High School in Warwick, NY and was a college student of architectural design. He was a self employed carpenter and had an extraordinary gift in creating fine cabinetry. Alfie was a loving and devoted family man who always put himself second to any person in need. He has touched many lives and will forever be remembered for his kind spirit and gentle loving ways. He had many passions which included his family, Irish set-dancing and HOPe, a small non-sectarian charity dedicated to helping people help themselves.
Alfred John Pakenham was predeceased by his mother and father, Thomas and Caroline, his brothers John Pakenham and Tim Pakenham. Alfie is survived by his wife Kathleen Hannigan, brother Richard Pakenham, Naperville, IL, three daughters, Lisa Pakenham of Newburgh, NY, Jessica Pakenham of New Paltz, NY, Anna Pakenham of Corvallis, OR, son David Pakenham of Los Angeles, CA, step children Kera Singer, of Danbury, CT, and Adam Singer of Brookfield, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicholas, Bryan, Tyler, Patrick and Gavin.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Highland, NY. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The HOPe Foundation, PO Box 354, Woodlawn Station, NY 10470.
